Amongst other needs of man is one of data recovery. Data can be lost from a computer system owing to numerous reasons. One of the chief causes of data loss is a hard disk drive failure. A hard disk drive failure can cause tremendous amount of damage to data.
Hard Disk Crash
In case one has faced a data loss event on account of a hard disk drive failure or as it is more commonly called a hard disk crash, then data has to be salvaged from the given disk. This can be a complicated process and require the help of experts in the field.
The problem with the hard disk drives is that they are very delicate from within. They consist of platters which are prone to be affected by any particulate pollution. Owing to this reason the environment in which the hard disk drives are opened has to be super clean.
The Clean Room
These are special facilities and owing to their obsession with cleanliness they are called the clean rooms. These rooms are many times over cleaner than the operating rooms of the hospitals. This cleanliness, does not however, translate into a microbe free environment. The cleanliness refers to the absence of particulate pollution.
These rooms are graded as per the cleanliness of their air. The level of particulate pollution is controlled to an astonishingly high degree. The air quality in the clean rooms is regulated in various terms. These terms are the number of air particles, the temperature as well as the humidity levels of the room.
The ratings of the clean room are by class. These are like a class 1000 clean room or a class 100 clean room. The class of the clean room signifies the number of particles in the room per cubic foot. It is important that a clean room should be free of bacteria and particles of dust. Otherwise the damage to the hard disk drives can be increased to a great deal. In the case of production of the hard disk drives, the requirement is for a class 100 clean room.
The quality of air in terms of humidity and temperature has to be controlled greatly not only to protect the hard disk drive platters, but also the various equipments of the clean room. The clean rooms are important not just for the data recovery process but also for the production of hard disk drives.
Even in the case of production of the silicon chips and other particulate sensitive technologies such as the satellite making technology, the clean rooms are a must requisite. This is because the air within a clean room is repeatedly filtered. This continuous filtration is done to remove not only the dust particles but also other impurities which might contaminate the production of the greatly sensitive equipment.
It is not simply the room itself but also the people who work within one that have to be sanitised accordingly. This is because several millions of microscopic transistors are involved. Even the smallest of particles can be like a boulder on these transistors.
Those people, who work in a clean room, have to wear protective clothing, which is commonly referred to as the bunny suits. These bunny suits do not give off particles of lint. Not only that they, the bunny suits, also prevent the human skin along with hair particle from coming into contact with the environment of the room.
This requirement arises as even a small speck of dust can obstruct the pathways of the chips. That is owing to the very small size of the hardware involved. In their context even a small speck of dust will be like a massive boulder in the centre of a main road.
The amount of technology required to maintain these clean rooms is truly enormous. For this purpose there is a need for massive air filtration systems. These systems change all the air within a clean room at the rate of ten times per minute. This immensely reduces the chances of airborne particles to harm the hardware.
A bunny suit is built from special material. This material has got the properties of being non lint causing. Besides this the suits are anti static fabric which is worn over and above the street clothing. These are the basics of a clean room.
